Actress Aisha Lawal has said that the killing of Deborah Samuel, a female student of Shehu Shagari College of Education in Sokoto, was not an act of Islam.
Ms Samuel, a 200-level student of the Department of Early Childhood Education in the college, was mobbed after being accused of blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad in a voice note she sent on her class WhatsApp group.
Reacting to the tragic loss, Aisha stated that the perpetrators of the act should be blamed and not Islam, she also pointed out that Islam was a religion of peace and light.
The actress also noted that she does not think that killing for the prophet was ever written in the Quran, adding that justice must prevail.
She wrote: “BLAME THE PERPETRATORS NOT THE RELIGION. JUSTICE MUST DEFINITELY PREVAIL AND THE WICKED BARBARIC FANATICS MUST BE BROUGHT TO BOOK I HONESTLY DON’T KNOW WHERE IT IS WRITTEN IN THE QURAN THAT YOU MUST KILL FOR THE PROPHET.
“HER KILLING WAS PURE WICKEDNESS NOT IN ANY WAY AN ACT OF ISLAM AWON IKA. ISLAM IS A RELIGION OF PEACE AND LIGHT.”
