The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has debunked reports that a plane crashed in the Ikeja area of Lagos State.
A video of a wingless plane tied and transported on a flatbed trailer went viral on Tuesday. Some online news platforms reported it was a plane crash.
However, the FAAN said in a statement on Twitter that the plane was being transported to a new buyer.
“The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria would like to inform the general public to disregard the news making the rounds on social media about an alleged crash at Ikeja Airport,” the statement read.
“The aircraft was sold by the owner to a buyer, who was taking it to its final destination.”
A similar incident happened in June 2013 when an aircraft was being transported along the road in Mangoro.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said it was a scrap aircraft evacuated from the Murtala Muhammed International Airport en route to Badagry.
