Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has said he was not involved in an accident on Monday on his way to the airport in Abuja for a trip to Owo, Ondo State where worshippers were killed on Sunday.
Osinbajo was rumoured to have been involved in an auto crash after he was spotted at an accident scene.
His spokesman Laolu Akande had earlier tweeted that Osinbajo stopped his convoy to rescue the injured.
The vice president confirmed this himself via social media, saying “Thank you all for the calls and concern, I was not involved in an accident. On my way to the airport to travel to Ondo, we ran into an accident scene. My security and medical teams assisted in removing the victims of the crash from the scene. They have been transported to the Airforce Base hospital.”
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) also dismissed the accident rumour. The corps’ spokesman Bisi Kazeem said Osinbajo’s convoy instead ran into an accident scene on Monday and helped to rescue the victim.
“The accident occured at Zamani Junction involving a Toyota Corola with vehicle registration number GWT842AA. One male was injured and no one died. Victim has been taken to Air Force Base hospital Abuja, for treatment by the Vice President convoy ambulance as it happened in his presence,” Kazeem said.
