Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Atiku Abubakar on Wednesday congratulated Bola Tinubu on his emergence as the presidential flagbearer of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Tinubu defeated the likes of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, former minister of transportation Rotimi Amaechi among others to become the party’s candidate for the nation’s top job.
The former Lagos governor polled 1,271 votes, about half the number of delegates who participated in the primary election.
Amaechi got 316 votes while Osinbajo came third with 235 votes.
Tweeting after the ruling party’s convention, Atiku said Tinubu’s victory was a confirmation of his tenacity.
“Congratulations, Bola Tinubu, on your emergence as your party’s presidential candidate,” Atiku tweeted on Wednesday.
“It has been a hard-fought contest, but that you prevailed confirms your tenacity.”
Atiku and Tinubu will be the major contenders for the office of president in the 2023 general elections.
