Presidential candidate of Labour Party Peter Obi on Wednesday visited Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike at his private residence in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital.
The duo held a closed-door session and did not speak with reporters on the purpose of their meeting.
Mr Obi’s visit comes four days after Ebonyi State Governor Dave Umahi met Wike behind closed doors.
The development also comes in the wake of moves by the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Atiku Abubakar to appease Wike after he (Atiku) opted for Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate for the 2023 polls.
Wike’s camp is reported to be proving difficult over the matter. The Rivers governor has vowed severally not to leave the PDP. He is one of very few politicians who have stuck with the opposition party.
On Tuesday, Wike knocked former Niger State governor Babangida Aliyu for saying Atiku chose Okowa over Wike because the latter “talks too much” and “insults” people.
Wike said he would have “flogged” Aliyu if the ex-governor had come to Rivers for any kind of campaign that would hurt PDP in 2015.
