Joseph Ayanwole, father of the late Bamise Ayanwole who was killed after boarding a BRT bus on February 26 in Lagos, has urged the state government to go after a “godfather” whom he said the driver of the vehicle was working with.
The driver Andrew Ominnikoron is currently facing charges before a court. The state government has repeatedly denied trying to sweep the matter under the carpet. BRT providers operate in conjunction with the state government.
Speaking on the talk show, ‘The Public Eye Season 2’, with Funmi Iyanda on TVC, Mr Ayanwole said he was convinced Mr Ominnikoron was not alone in the act.
“I want the Lagos State government to bring to justice the godfather behind the killing of my daughter. I know that the driver is not the only one in this case because my daughter said that there were two males and one female in the bus,” he said.
Ayanwole shed tears during the show, adding that “everyday without his daughter was full of pain.”
“Who are we going to trust? Government should not allow my daughter to die in vain. I want justice,” he said.
According to Iyanda, the talk show is aimed at connecting people with stories to share, experts and institutions to discuss contextual issues with the aim of seeking innovative action.
The show is presented by Oya Media with support from MacArthur Foundation. It airs every Thursday at 9 pm on TVC.
