There are fears over a top police officer Abba Kyari who was at the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) Kuje Medium Security Custodial Centre, Abuja at the time of attack by gunmen on Tuesday night.
Kyari was remanded at the facility by a Federal High Court in Abuja.
He is standing trial for allegedly dealing in cocaine alongside four members of his former police unit, the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Unit (IRT), and two other persons arrested at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu, Enugu State, in January this year.
The facility is known to hold around 700 inmates.
Details of the attack have not been made public by the NCoS. It is believed that several inmates escaped from the facility. Nigerians on social media, however, appear more concerned about Kyari.
