Presidential candidate of Labour Party Peter Obi has unveiled his running mate Datti Baba-Ahmed.
The 46-year-old was unveiled on Friday at the party’s secretariat in Abuja. He is the founder of Baze University, Abuja.
Mr Obi said, “Baba-Ahmed was eminently qualified to bring his private sector and academic achievements to bear in the drive to rescue Nigeria from the primitive politics of ethnicity.”
The former Anambra State governor added that the party will anchor its manifesto in the coming days on the 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs).
The announcement of Baba-Ahmed follows the withdrawal of the director-general of Peter Obi Campaign Organisation, Doyin Okupe, as the vice-presidential candidate of the party.
“This afternoon I submitted my withdrawal letter from the position of the Vice Presidential candidate of the Labour Party to INEC. A replacement will be announced by d national chairman of d party shortly. I feel greatly blessed to have been part of the foundation of success 4 the LP,” Okupe tweeted on Thursday.
The Labour party had named Okupe as the interim vice presidential candidate in order to beat the deadline by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
