Clergymen from different Christian denominations drew attention on Wednesday at the official unveiling of former governor of Borno State Kashim Shettima as vice presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress.
The clergymen, which included bishops in their cassocks, caused a stir as they walked in their numbers into the Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja.
Religious bodies had urged Christian leaders to boycott the unveiling because of the party’s decision to go with Muslims as presidential and vice-presidential candidates.
Shettima will be on the ballot in 2023 as Bola Tinubu’s running mate.
While announcing Shettima in Daura, Katsina State, on July 10, Tinubu had said he consulted widely before choosing him.
The ex-senator said all his life, decisions regarding the team around and supporting him had always been guided by the principles of competence, innovation, compassion, integrity, fairness, and adherence to excellence.
Tinubu added that the belief in prioritising leadership, competence, and the ability to work as a team over other considerations influenced his choice of a running mate.
