Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Atiku Abubakar says he does not believe Labour Party can pull off a miracle by winning the presidential election with its candidate Peter Obi next year.
Mr Obi was Atiku’s running mate in 2019. He however left the PDP before the party’s presidential primary in June and joined Labour Party to secure the presidential ticket.
In an interview with Arise TV aired on Friday, Atiku said the recent governorship election in Osun State is an example of the capacity of Labour Party.
The party could not match the popularity of the PDP and the All Progressives Congress.
“What is the performance of the Labour Party? This is a party that does not have a governor; doesn’t have members of the National Assembly; doesn’t have state assembly members,” said Atiku.
“Politics in this country depends on the structures you have at these various levels – at the local government level, at the state level, and at the national level. So, it is very very difficult to expect a miracle to happen simply because Peter Obi is in the Labour Party.
“After all, they were saying through social media they have more than one million votes in Osun State. But how many people turned out to vote for the Labour Party?” The former Vice President asked.
Atiku added that 90 percent of the northern people are not active on social media where Obi enjoys popularity.
