Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike on Saturday promised to reveal the ‘truth’ about the crisis threatening to ruin the chances of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party in next year’s presidential election.
Wike and some of his PDP colleagues believe he should have been selected as the party’s vice-presidential candidate, not Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.
Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom said Atiku jettisoned the recommendation of 14 out of 17 members of the committee that recommended Wike as his running mate, leading to crisis in the PDP.
However, Atiku said in an exclusive interview with Arise TV aired on Friday that he chose Okowa because the latter “could deliver”.
While announcing Okowa as his running mate, the former Vice President had said he picked the Delta governor because he (Okowa) had the qualities of a president, adding that he “is a President-in-waiting.”
However, in his first public reaction to the controversy, Wike tweeted on Saturday that he would soon speak on recent happenings in the party.
“I will speak soon and Nigerians will know the actual truth of all that has transpired in the PDP in recent times,” he said.
