Organisers of the Headies Awards have disqualified singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, from the list of nominees for threatening to kill his fellow nominees.
This was made known in a statement published on Instagram on Tuesday, July 26.
The organisers also pointed at the criminal investigations carried out by the police over the singer’s recent misdemeanours.
Headies noted that the 27-year-old had garnered negative attention from the Nigeria Police and the general public.
The statement added that the decision to disqualify the singer was also due to claims he founded the notorious gang known as One Million Boys.
Part of the statement read, “We regret to announce that following numerous indicting statements made by Mr. Habeeb Okikiola popularly known as ‘Portable’, and the incessant negative attention that Mr Okikiola has garnered from the Nigeria Police and the general public in recent times, the organisers of the Headies have resolved to disqualify Mr Okikiola as a nominee at the forthcoming 15th Headies Awards.
“Being subject of an investigation relating to criminal activities, Mr Habeeb Okikiola is hereby disqualified from both categories of awards at the forthcoming 15th Annual Headies Awards scheduled to hold later this year.”
Portable was nominated in the ‘Rookie of the Year’ and ‘Best Street-Hop Artiste’ categories.
In a video that went viral on July 18, Portable boasted about being the founder of One Million Boys and Ajah Boys, two notorious gangs in Lagos and Ogun.
The Zazu singer, however, made a U-turn after the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba ordered an investigation into the statement.
According to the artiste, the One Million Boys statement means he has one million followers.
