Journalist Rufai Oseni says he has a right to say he will call Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu following his Monday clash with the police for using the BRT lane with his private vehicle.
A Lagos Mobile Court on Tuesday found Mr Oseni guilty of traffic infraction and fined him ₦70,000.
Prior to this, a video of Oseni threatening to call Mr Sanwo-Olu on the policemen had gone viral on social media.
Addressing the public on the video, Oseni said in a live session on Tuesday evening that he has a right to call Sanwo-Olu if he feels he is being maltreated.
“I went to the police officer because I was upset and he had thrown tantrums, telling me to do my worse. So I said I will call the governor. I have a right to say I will call the governor of the state, he is the chief security officer,” said Oseni.
The Arise TV anchor said the Lexus SUV in the viral video is owned by a friend he called. He said the friend sent the car and police escorts to get him.
Oseni also repeated his claim that a policeman pointed a gun at him before forcefully collecting his car keys and driving the car off.
The journalist, however, apologised for making derogatory remarks at the policemen.
