Veteran musician Charly Boy has addressed the speculation that his marriage is in crisis following his recent statement about missing bachelorhood.
The 72-year-old sparked reactions on social media after saying he was getting tired of his 45-year-old marriage to Diane Oputa which led to divorce speculations.
Clearing the air in another post on Instagram on Wednesday, Charly Boy also known as Area Fada said that his post was not a hint at divorce but to inform his followers that marriage is hard work.
He wrote: “Because of dis my recent post. Some winche people don begin speculate say my marriage don crash. Abegi ooooo. I just dey talk to many pple wey think say marriage shouldn’t feel like work. Or if it feels like work, we are doing it wrong. Somehow our society has come to think of marriage as something we set and forget. Lie. Like anything else that is rewarding, we have to work at our marriages. And it’s OK if marriage is hard work! It can never be on auto cruise.”
Although Charly Boy and Diane had been together for over 40 years and had several children, they were not wedded according to Christian rites until December 2018 when the duo exchanged marriage vows at Chapel of Sisters of Jesus the Redeemer Catholic Church in Gwarimpa, Abuja.
The couple also made headlines by riding to the wedding venue in a tricycle.
