Actor Yemi Solade has showered praises on Tobi Amusan for breaking record at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Tobi Amusan, on Sunday, won the women’s 100m hurdles gold medal. The 25-year-old clocked 12.30 seconds to set a new Games record and retain the title she won in Gold Coast, Australia four years ago.
Congratulating her in an Instagram post Yemi Solade said Tobi and other Nigerians taking part in the event have continued to place smiles on the face of every Nigerian.
The actor also prayed for God’s blessings and reward for their victories.
He wrote: “While Nigerian politicians fail us, Tobi Amusan and other sporting patriots place smiles on our faces. God’s continued blessings and reward on them all.”
Fellow celebrities like Kate Henshaw, Kaffy and Funke Akindele have also joined in celebrating Tobi Amusan.
On Friday, August 5, Amusan clocked 12.40s (+2.4) to qualify for the final.
Speaking after her victory in Birmingham, She said, “Honestly, I believe in my abilities but I was not expecting a world record at these championships.
“The goal is always just to execute well and get the win. So the world record is a bonus. I knew I had it in me but I could not believe it when I saw it on the screen after the semis.
“Before the final, I just tried to stay calm and to do my best. I took a deep breath knowing that I have some goals to accomplish and it worked pretty well. I knew it was very fast but not this fast.”
