An Arik Air Airbus A-330-200 plane from Nigeria landed at London Heathrow Airport on Thursday after declaring an emergency.
It was scheduled to land at 18.30 but touched down at 18.57.
Flight W3101 took off from Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos for its 6 hour 45 minute flight and landed at Terminal 4 at Heathrow.
Official statement from the airline explained that the aircraft developed technical problem and has been declared AOG (Aircraft on Ground), which means it was no more airworthy until the technical problem was corrected.
This has prompted the airline to reschedule its flight from London to Lagos that ought to leave London on March 24 night, to Lagos, so it would now leave on Friday morning.
However, Arik said the incident would not affect the airline’s Lagos to London flight on Friday, March 25 that was already schedule to operate by 12:45 pm.
Arik Air is operates a domestic, regional and international flight network. It operates mainly from two hubs in Lagos and Abuja.
The carrier transported its 10 millionth passenger on September 18 2012, on a flight between Johannesburg and Lagos.
It recently named Nollywood actress, Omoni Oboli, its brand ambassador.
