Super Falconets passed a night at an airport in Istanbul, Turkey on their way back home.
The players were pictured sleeping on chairs and the floor of the airport.
The team was knocked out of the quarter finals of the 2022 Under-20 Women’s World Cup by Netherlands on Sunday.
Ex-media officer of the Super Eagles, Colin Udoh, who shared the photos on his social media pages said, “Nigeria’s #Falconets have been traveling from Costa Rica since 6:30am on Monday.
“They’re now in Istanbul on a 24-hour layover and sleeping on the airport chairs and floor, or wherever they can find.”
The Falconets started the tournament strongly winning all three games in the group stage.
Flourish Sabastine scored an 85th minute goal for the Falconets to defeat France in the opening game. The game ended 1-0.
The team left it late again to defeat South Korea in the second game with a lone goal. Midfielder Esther Onyenezide scored the 83rd minute goal.
The third game against Canada was more open as four goals were registered. Onyenezide scored two goals from the penalty spot while substitute Chioma Olise got Nigeria’s third goal. The Canadians however scored a goal as the game ended 3-1. The Falconets finished top in Group C with nine points from three games.
