Senator Ike Ekweremadu’s daughter Sonia graduated from the University of Coventry in the United Kingdom in 2019 months before she was diagnosed with a rare kidney disease, FSGS Nephrotic Syndrome.
Sonia gave insights into her ordeal in an Instagram post on Monday where she begged the public for a kidney donor.
It was in July 2019 that her father and other family members attended her graduation ceremony to celebrate with her.
Ekweremadu shared pictures on Twitter, saying he was proud of his daughter, although he did not mention the university she graduated from.
“Please, join me in congratulating my darling daughter, Sonia Chinonso Ekweremadu, BA Media and Communications, on her graduation. Well done, girl. Proud of you. I celebrate you,” he said.
Apparently, Sonia got admitted for postgraduate studies in that same year 2019 at the University of Newcastle.
According to her, she dropped out when she was diagnosed with the kidney disease.
Ekweremadu’s daughter noted in her Instagram post that the public appeal would have been totally unnecessary were it possible for her family members to donate a kidney for her.
“Regrettably, comprehensive medical examination showed that my case of nephrotic syndrome is a genetic illness and the doctors advised against donation from any of my family members, as it would likely reoccur. In the time that my father has been incarcerated, he has been diagnosed with acute kidney damage,” she said.
