Skit maker Mr Macaroni has reacted to a video of Prophet Israel Ogundipe aka Prophet Genesis, saying he will vote for the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Bola Tinubu because he is Yoruba.
The controversial cleric, who is the head of Genesis Parish of the Celestial Church of Christ in the Alagbado area of Lagos, made the statement during a service in his church on Sunday.
Genesis said he is not a “bastard” therefore he cannot vote for an Igbo person when there is a candidate who is from the Yoruba extraction on the ballot.
“I vote for Tinubu, I support Tinubu. You like it or not, I don’t care,” the preacher roared. “You know me I am not afraid. You know why? Because if I see another Yoruba person I will support, that (Tinubu) is the only Yoruba person I’m seeing. I am not a bastard, I cannot be a Yoruba and vote for Igbo. I’m not afraid.”
Reacting to the statement on Twitter on Tuesday, Mr Macaroni who countered the prophet, advised Nigerians to run from any religious leader asking them to vote for the country’s next president solely on tribal grounds.
He wrote: “Dear Nigerians, If your religious leader is asking you to abandon all the qualities of a good leader and vote for the next President of this Nation just because you are from the same tribe as the candidate, then there is serious fire on the mountain. RUN!! Vote Wisely.”
In another tweet, the 29-year-old activist added, “You do business across tribes because it favors you. You don’t care who you buy your house or car from, you don’t care who you transact with as long as you make money or you get service. It’s election time and you suddenly remember the candidate must be from your tribe.
“Supporters of all political candidates must realize the danger in using tribalism as a campaign strategy. If it is tribe over competence, then go and campaign to be the leader of your tribe and not President of Nigeria which consists of many tribes!
We want a President for all!
