Supporters of the presidential candidate of Labour Party, Peter Obi, on Monday held a rally in Calabar, Cross River State capital.
The supporters, made up mainly of young people, came out in droves to express their support for Obi.
Obi’s supporters had held a rally in neighbouring Akwa Ibom, and other states such as Lagos, Edo, Kaduna, Bauchi, Adamawa on October 1.
In Lagos, the supporters known as ‘Obidients’ converged at strategic points.
Some of them began the walk from the Admiralty Junction moving through the major road in Lekki, making stops at every junction waving flags, banners and other paraphernalia.
They moved towards Jakande, Elegushi axis, to avoid confrontation with the police who were stationed at the Lekki toll gate.
The toll gate has been a rallying point for protesters since security forces allegedly opened fire on unarmed protesters on October 20, 2020.
On the mainland, they marched through Ojuelegba, Surulere, Ikeja and Festac among others.
A Lagos High Court on September 28 ruled against the convergence of the rally at the toll gate.
The court also directed the inspector general of police, Usman Baba, and the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alabi, to ensure compliance with the order.
On Sunday, Obi commented on a girl identified as Chioma Success who went viral for her participation at the rally in Lagos on October 1.
Obi tweeted that she is now the “poster child” of the campaign.
He said, “The fight to take Nigeria back is for the sake of this little girl, Chioma, and for the sake of every Nigerian child – Amina, Yinka, Akpan, Abdul, Asake- including the unborn children. Chioma is now the poster child of this seminal campaign and process of national rebirth. I salute her passion and innocent gravitas.”
