The entertainment industry has been dealt with another blow as Ifeanyi Adeleke, son of pop star Davido has died.
A source close to the family revealed that Ifeanyi drowned in a swimming pool at the family’s residence in Lagos on Monday October 31.
“The boy was inside water for too long and they pulled him out and rushed him to the hospital. By the time they rushed him to Lagoon Hospital it was already too late,” the source said.
The tragic incident occurred days after a video of Davido teaching Ifeanyi how to swim went viral.
In the video, Ifeanyi could be seen flapping his legs in the water while Davido gave him instructions on how stay afloat in the water.
A happy Davido could also be seen encouraging the little boy to keep swimming, adding that Ifeanyi was a fast learner.
“This one go learn quick,” the 29-year-old said in the video.
Ifeanyi Adeleke who was born on October 20, 2019, died 11 days after celebrating his third birthday.
His death comes four years after another artiste D’banj lost his son, who similarly drowned in the family’s swimming pool.
Meanwhile, the police have started interrogating the domestic staff who were present when the incident occurred.
Police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin who spoke to reporters on Tuesday, said the command was questioning them to understand what really happened.
Benjamin said that all eight domestic workers employed by the singer are currently in police custody and are being interrogated.
He said: “Domestic staff at Davido’s home have been taken to the station to give their own account of what happened. I wouldn’t call that arrest yet.
“If after they all give their own account of what happened and after preliminary investigations, anyone of them is found culpable, the person will now be placed under arrest.
“Yes, the nanny is also with them. We are interviewing them separately to understand what happened. It is indeed a painful situation and we condole with the family.”
Nollywood actor Muyiwa Ademola has also urged parents to ensure their children are supervised by adults while swimming.
Muyiwa said this in an Instagram post on Tuesday while reacting to the death.
He wrote: “It is one of the saddest thing when kids are being buried by parents. We really wish it never happened! May The Almighty gives the parents and the entire Adeleke family the strength to bear this loss.
“Please and please if you have a pool in your house and you have little children, endeavor to secure free entry to the pool, ensure no one except adults and supervised children gets in. Maybe govt should begin to give modalities etc to those who wants to infuse swimming pools into their house structures, just maybe, just maybe. Rest In Peace Champ.”
