Nigerians on Tuesday marked the one year anniversary of the 21-storey building that collapsed on Gerrard Road at the Ikoyi area of Lagos on November 1, 2021.
Over 40 persons died in the incident including the developer of the building Femi Osibona and his friend Wale Bob-Oseni.
The incident shook the entire city as rescue efforts continued for days.
Bob-Oseni, a US-based real estate dealer, was on his way to the airport en route the United States when he reportedly got a call from Osibona to stop by and see the high-rise building.
Both men got trapped in the rubble when the building fell.
The incident forced Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to declare three days of mourning for the victims.
The PUNCH in an article published on Tuesday and titled “Ikoyi building: Counting the losses one year after collapse” remembered the victims of the tragic incident.
Media mogul Dele Momodu also celebrated the memories of the victims of the November 1 building collapse.
“Today, as always, we remember our friends, FEMI FOURSCORE OSIBONA and WALE BOB-OSENI, and all those who lost their lives in the Ikoyi collapsed building exactly a year ago… May their souls continue to rest in peace,” he wrote in an Instagram post.
In February 2022, the state government agreed that the existing two 15-storey buildings still standing at the site of the collapse on Gerrard Road in Ikoyi should be demolished and the land forfeited to the state government.
But Justice Adewunmi Oshin of the Lagos High Court stopped the government from taking over and demolishing the two remaining high-rise buildings constructed by Fourscore Heights Limited in Ikoyi.
The judge also ordered all parties in the suit to maintain status quo pending the hearing and determination of a suit filed by 15 subscribers in the high-rise buildings.
