A former governorship candidate of the Labour Party Lasun Yusuf has joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke announced Yusuf’s defection to the PDP on Wednesday at the party’s presidential campaign rally in Osogbo.
Among those attending the rally are the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar; his running mate, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State; party’s national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, and the PDP presidential campaign council chairman, Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State.
Ayu described Yusuf’s defection as a homecoming. “I want to thank the Osun people, let’s forget about the past and reunite every great member of our party, this is the party of hope,” he said.
Ayu said Yusuf has pledged to campaign for and support Atiku’s candidacy.
Yusuf, a former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, had in July contested alongside Adeleke for the seat of governor.
The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party Peter Obi had campaigned for Yusuf in July 2022 ahead of the election.
Mr Obi also congratulated Adeleke on his inauguration as governor.
