The Nigeria Police Force has come under heavy criticism following the fatal shooting of female lawyer Bolanle Raheem by an assistant superintendent of Police (ASP) in Lagos on Christmas Day.
The incident happened in the Ajah area when the yet unnamed police officer shot at a vehicle conveying Mrs Raheem and her family.
Lagos police command spokesman Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the tragedy, adding that the culprit and two others have been arrested.
“Unfortunate and avoidable incident that was. The ASP that shot and two others with him have since been taken into custody. They are to be moved to the SCID for further investigation,” Mr Hundeyin wrote in a Twitter message.
The image maker added that “the command condoles with the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased.”
Expectedly, many social media users have called out the police for what is another in a long list of extrajudicial killings.
Coming two years and two months after the #EndSars protest of 2020, Nigerians are once again demanding an end to police brutality.
