Filmmaker Kunle Afolayan is set to feature his brother Gabriel Afolayan in a movie for the second time.
The first time the brothers worked on the same movie was in Citation released in 2020.
Kunle announced the production of a new film in partnership with Netflix in a statement on Wednesday, January 18, three months after the release of Anikulapo on the movie streaming platform.
Sharing photos taken with cast and crew in his office in Lagos and at KAP Film Village and Resort in Oyo State on Instagram, the 48-year-old revealed that the new production is titled IJOGBON.
The statement announcing the film reads: “KAP Motion Pictures, under the directorship of Kunle Afolayan and in partnership with NETFLIX, is set to shoot another film titled – IJOGBON.
“Written by award-winning Tunde Babalola, IJOGBON is a coming-of-age family adventure of four teenagers (3 boys and 1 girl) from a rural village in South-West Nigeria, who stumbles on a bag full of diamonds and conceal it, much to their regret.
“Although the location is rural, the movie – IJOGBON is set in present-day and KAP Motion Pictures has delved into local folklore to better tell this story.
“IJOGBON shows the universality of human emotions, defined by peculiar cultural backgrounds and beliefs.
“Furthermore, the film depicts what life is like for teenagers in rural parts, and their aspirations for a better life, even if it means having to Japa.”
Apart from Gabriel Afolayan, IJOGBON will feature the likes of Bimbo Manuel, Sam Dede, Tana Adelana, Yemi Solade, Yemi Sodimu, Femi Branch, Adunni Ade, Funky Mallam and Dorathy Bachor of Big Brother Naija.
It will also feature young actors like Ruby Akubueze, Ojuolape Kayode, Fawaz of Ikorodu Bois and Oluwaseyi Ebiesuwa.
