Atiku appoints Ozekhome, 18 other SANs to challenge Tinubu’s victory

Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party Atiku Abubakar has lined up a legal team of 19 senior advocates of Nigeria to challenge the result of the February 25 election.

The move followed the announcement of the APC’s Bola Tinubu by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as winner of the poll.

Atiku briefed the lawyers on Wednesday at his campaign headquarters in Abuja, asking them to “establish the claim of illegality in the election and reclaim the mandate of the Nigerian people.”

He further declared that it is crucial for them to go through this process not just for himself and PDP, but also to reinforce constitutional democracy and safeguard it for future generations.

The team is headed by a seasoned litigation and commercial lawyer, JK Gadzama.

The legal team includes Chris Uche, Paul Usoro, Tayo Jegede, Ken Mozia, Mike Ozekhome, Mahmood Magaji, Joe Abraham, Chukwuma Umeh, Garba Tetengi and Emeka Etiaba.

Others are Goddy Uche, Professor Maxwell Gidado; PDP’s national legal adviser, A.K. Ajibade; O.M. Atoyebi; Nella Rabana; Paul Ogbole; Nuremi Jimoh and Abdul Ibrahim.

The APC on Tuesday announced 13 SANs have been appointed to defend Tinubu’s victory.

Peter Obi of the Labour Party has also employed no less than 12 SANs to establish that he won the tightly-contested election.
