House on the Rock church at Lekki, Lagos has announced that a service of songs would be held on Thursday, March 23 at The Rock Cathedral in honour of the drummer Chris Okafor.
Mr Okafor, 36, died after slumping in church on Sunday, March 12.
The church’s senior pastor’s wife Ifeanyi Adefarasin announced funeral plans on Instagram, stating that although the church is saddened by Okafor’s death they are consoled that he died in service to God.
She said, “Yours was a life gone in a moment but with impact. Your dedication, devotion and delight in your skill at playing the drums touched the lives of many around you.
“You practised, perfected, proved and presented your gift before kings as you added rhythm and dance, inspiring people to praise and worship their maker.
“You ushered people to the throne room through your skill which you used to serve your master even as you took your last breath. You were not called home sleeping or slopping but on active duty.
“We are very much saddened because your time with us was short, but we rejoice knowing you are now fully resting from your labour here on earth. That in itself gives us comfort as we carry on in this journey of life knowing fully well that life is but for a moment and one’s service and impact to humanity is what counts.”
Okafor belonged to the arm of the church known as the Lagos Metropolitan Gospel Choir (LMGC).
He will be buried at Atan Cemetery in Yaba, Lagos on Friday.
