A woman Rebecca Ikumelo, killed in a crush at the 02 Academy Brixton during a concert last year by singer Asake, has been buried.
Ikumelo, 33, suffered serious injuries on December 15, 2022 when a large number of people tried to enter the concert. She died afterwards.
Hundreds of mourners joined her family at the funeral on Friday to pay their last respects to the nursing graduate and mother of two.
Another woman Gaby Hutchinson, 23, also died after the incident.
At her funeral on Friday, Ikumelo’s family lamented that her body was held by the coroner for over three months before it was released.
Ikumelo’s sister Mary told BBC, “It is so, so difficult to understand what we have passed through as a family. We just collected Rebecca’s body back. Why it took so long? We are a patient family and we will fight and wait for justice.”
Asake was forced to cut his concert short after many people began pushing themselves to enter the venue for the sold-out show.
It was one of three sold-out shows Asake was holding in London for his debut album Mr Money with the Vibes.
One eyewitness claimed that about 1,000 people showed up for the event without tickets.
Asake said he felt “pained” for the loss of lives at the concert.
A police investigation into the incident is due to conclude next month.
