Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) Professor Abayomi Fasina on Tuesday visited chef Damilola Adeparusi who is on a mission to set a world record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual.
Prof Fasina was accompanied by some members of the university council.
Fasina said, “In FUOYE, we motivate you to innovate. We encourage our students to pursue their dreams with sound and functional education which we painstakingly impact on our students and you are a shining example and testimony of the hard work of our dynamic lecturers.
“We are indeed very happy for you and we encourage you and others to continue to make us proud by bringing into practice the functional education and positive values you are receiving in FUOYE.”
The VC thereafter handed over a cash gift of N200,000 to her.
Adeparusi, who is on a target to set a new 120-hour world cooking record, thanked the VC for the visit on Instagram.
She wrote, “Thank you so much for honouring us with your presence sir. We are elated to have you.”
As of press time, she had completed 114 hours.
Also, on Tuesday, the Guinness World Records announced Hilda Baci the new record holder for the longest cooking by an individual.
The GWR in a statement on its website, said, “Following a thorough review of all the evidence, Guinness World Records can now confirm that Hilda Effiong Bassey, better known as Hilda Baci, has officially broken the record for the longest cooking marathon (individual), with a time of 93 hours 11 minutes.”
The 26-year-old chef began on May 11 and continued through to May 15, cooking over 100 pots of food during her four-day kitchen stint.
Hilda Baci attempted to set a record of 100 hours, however, almost seven hours were deducted from her final total because she mistakenly took extra minutes for one of her rest breaks early on in the attempt.
