Fidelis Omhonria, father of Ivan Omhonria who was allegedly hit by stray bullet fired by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Thursday, July 13, has called for justice.
Mr Omhonria had just dropped off his children at his wife’s shop and driven off less than five minutes before the incident occurred.
The operatives, according to a statement by the agency, raided a joint in the Okpanam area of Asaba, Delta State on that day.
Mr Omhonria told BBC Pidgin on Saturday that his second son sustained injury as broken glasses entered his eyes. The boy is receiving treatment at a hospital.
He said he went to the scene of the incident instead of the hospital when his wife called to break the news to him.
He said that when he got to the shop he was told that a bullet hit Ivan. Omhonria noted that he soon saw vehicles marked NDLEA.

“As I was approaching one Hilux vehicle belonging to the NDLEA, I was telling one officer that bullet from their gunshot had killed my child.
“The officer cocked his gun and demanded I give him my phone which I was using to record them. As I refused they zoomed off and I followed them and was calling for help,” he said.
He said the operatives later stopped and began to beg him that it was a mistake.
Omhonria said doctors tried to save his son’s life for six hours.
“They said the bullet affected his kidney, intestine, and shattered everywhere,” he said.
Omhonria revealed Ivan’s little brother underwent a surgical operation in the eye.
The incident has led to the trending subject on Twitter #JusticeForOnose as people call for justice.
The NDLEA said it has begun investigating the incident.
