President Bola Tinubu has commended the Super Falcons for their effort in the defeat to England at the FIFA Women’s World Cup on Monday.
The Falcons forced England to penalties after their last-16 tie finished 0-0 at the end of extra time.
The Nigerian team eventually lost 4-2 in the penalty shoot-out.
Tinubu shared a picture of the team on his Twitter handle saying, “I must commend the effort by our Super Falcons #NGSuper_Falcons at the FIFA Women’s World Cup. Your brilliant performance did not go unnoticed despite the final outcome. You made Nigeria proud on the global stage!”

First lady Remi Tinubu, wife of the vice president Nana Shettima, and wife of the Senate President Ekaette Akpabio watched the game.
They commended the Super Falcons, saying they were very proud of them.
Speaking to the press on their behalf, Mrs Tinubu said, “We want to say we’re proud of them, firstly. We woke up early to watch the game. Mrs Shettima was the first to get to my office. They played very well, we are proud of them. We gave England a run for their money. We’ll be waiting to receive them.”
The quarter-final stages will take place on Friday and Saturday.
