Singer Ayo Balogun, better known as Wizkid, has said that it is impossible for the pain of losing his mum to go away.
The singer said this during a night of tributes held in honour of the deceased which took place on Thursday at the Balmoral Hall, Federal Palace Hotel, and Casino, 6-8 Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Speaking at the ceremony, an emotional Wizkid said: “I know everyone in my family shares this pain with me and I know God in his infinite mercy is going to…it is impossible for the pain to go away so I’m not going to say make the pain go away but to comfort us to be able to get on with the rest of life. God will comfort everyone of us.”
A candlelight procession in honour of the singer’s mum was held on Wednesday with Wizkid making his first public appearance following a nearly month- long period of silence as he mourns his mother.
The funeral service takes place on Friday, October 13 at RCCG City of David COD Church Road, Dideolu Estate, off, Ligali Ayorinde St, Victoria Island, Lagos. at 10 a.m.
Juliana Balogun nee Oshineye Dawodu Olowosago died on August 18.
Wizkid breaks down in tears at night of tributes for mum
Born on July 26, 1990, in Surulere, Lagos, Wizkid grew up in a polygamous home with a Muslim father and a Christian mother. His father married three wives.
Wizkid’s mother was a familiar sight at most of his concerts and events.
She was born on July 14, 1957 and is survived by her husband, M.O Balogun, and four children, namely Yetunde Balogun, Omolara Osunkoya, Olubusayo Balogun, Ayodeji Balogun (Wizkid) and many grandchildren.
