Founder of the Omega Power Ministry (OPM) Apostle Chibuzor Chinyere has suspended all overseas scholarships sponsored by his organisation due to the downward slope of the naira’s value.
The clergyman announced this via Facebook on Wednesday.
He said that until there is a significant improvement with regard to the valuation of the naira, the ministry would discontinue its scholarship programme at the University of Benin Republic after the current session, while the Nigerian universities scholarship would continue.
He said, “All overseas scholarship is hereby suspended. We shall continue to pay the school fees, accommodation, and the OPM free restaurant in Benin Republic till graduation.
“But we would not be adding anymore new students for now until CFA exchange to Naira improves, but only Nigerian university scholarship will continue for now until the dollar and CFA improves.”
Apostle Chinyere forgives Happie Boys, to bring them back to Nigeria
Chinyere, who apologised to all those affected by the decision, called on Nigerians to pray to God to intervene and make the naira strong again.
In June, the Port Harcourt-based preacher said he had forgiven two security guards, better known as Happie Boys, who called him out for allegedly abandoning them in Cyprus after sending them on scholarships.
Chinyere said he paused funding their scholarships due to the increased dollar rate. He added that the financial burden became too much for him with over 4,000 individuals on his scholarship programmes.
The cleric clarified that other beneficiaries were affected and he gave them the option of continuing their studies at any university in Nigeria or Benin Republic. But the Happie Boys refused to return to Nigeria.
