Former goalkeeper and captain of the Super Eagles Vincent Enyeama has said that he was treated like a “piece of used material” in the period leading to his exit from the team.
The former Lille shot-stopper stated this when asked in an interview with Hot Sports NG about his thoughts on the team’s recent performances.
“Sincerely, I’ve not been following Nigerian football right from the day I left. And with due respect, I was treated like a piece of used material.

Nigerians reminisce about Enyeama after Super Eagles AFCON defeat
“So I put up a block between me and the national team. It’s now that I’m beginning to follow what is going on. But I really put a stop to watching football, the national team. I was deeply hurt. But now I’ve moved. I can’t really say much about the national team and the goalkeeping because I’m not watching them,” the 41-year-old said.
Enyeama, who recently bagged an honorary doctorate from UNIUYO, resigned from the national team in October 2015 after reportedly falling out with some of the country’s top football officials.
He said winning the AFCON in 2013 and winning consecutive titles with Enyimba were some memorable moments of his career.
“I can’t pick a memorable moment, but winning the AFCON in 2013 remains one of the best moments, as did winning on the continent with Enyimba in 2003 and 2004. I had other memorable moments in my career,” said Enyeama.
