Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has congratulated his deputy Philip Shaibu on his 54th birthday.
Mr Obaseki, 66, and Shaibu are embroiled in a cold war over the latter’s ambition to become governor.
On November 27, Shaibu formally declared his intention to contest for the PDP’s ticket. While Obaseki believes his deputy is too ambitious, Shaibu says it is within his rights to desire the state’s top job.
Celebrating Shaibu on Friday via social media, Obaseki wrote, “I congratulate my brother, the Deputy Governor of Edo State, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu @honphilipshaibu, on his 54th birthday.

“I thank him immensely for his support in the course of our drive for the development of our State in the last seven years.
“I also acknowledge the energy and vigour he has brought to bear as this administration embarked on the onerous task of bringing transformational change and development to Edo State.”
Obaseki added that aside Shaibu’s contributions to their administration, “he has remained an exemplary husband, father and a great family man.”
“I celebrate him today and wish him many more years in good health and sound mind,” said the governor.
