Actress Uchenna Nnanna said that winning the Africa Magic Viewers Choice (AMVCA) for best Igbo film put her on the map of Nollywod.
Uchenna bagged the best indigenous movie (Igbo category) award for her movie Nneka at the 2022 AMVCA held in Lagos.
Speaking in a recent interview with QEDNG, the actress stated that one of the reasons she ventured into producing Igbo movies was to portray her culture in a positive light and winning the war elevated her.
She said: “As an actor, sometimes, you mighty see some things that are not really going well like when it comes to why I even went for producing Igbo movies, they don’t give it what I want.
“When you hear Igbo movies they will do doing where people are tying only one wrapper, you see people in thatch houses and I ask them are you saying my Igbo people are not rich?” Won’t dress well? Why are you people doing local movies? Reaosn I ventured into producing Igbo movies. And I am glad because when I picked that script and I finished reading it, I said I want to use this film and put my name on the map of Nollywood and it came through. It was a dream come true that the movie won Best Indigenous Film. To God be the glory.
Uche dedicated the award to her late parents and her sister who died in the Sosoliso plane crash.
