Actress Empress Njamah has celebrated one year of surviving a scandal involving her and her ex-lover George Wade who was accused of blackmailing and leaking intimate videos of the movie star.
The duo made headlines in December 2022 and earlier in 2023 after Empress accused Wade of trying to blackmail her with her private videos and photos in his possession.
Wade allegedly made good on his threat and released the actress’ nude photos and videos, promising that he would be releasing her unclad videos and pictures every day.
As things spiraled out of control, many of her colleagues supported and stood by her, including the national president of Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) Emeka Rollas who called for Wade’s arrest.
Empress took to her Instagram account on Monday to celebrate surviving the scandal as she wished her followers a happy new year.
She wrote: “HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE. Same time last year the devil touched the wrong person (you know the story) but as a child of GRACE the mighty God came through for me, ever since my TESTIMONIES are endless, who am that God loves me so much? My appreciation goes to God almighty and every soul who stood by me,with a thankful heart I say HAPPY NEW YEAR AND GOD BLESS.”
When her private videos and photos were released, Empress, explained that Wade gained access into her life when she was vulnerable from the death of her close friend Ada Ameh, an actress, and he took advantage of her vulnerability to allegedly dupe and blackmail her.
She admitted that Wade had an intimate video of her but noted that he is the one in the video with her, not another man as he claimed.
Wade, whose real name is Nicholas Davies, was eventually arrested by the Liberian police.
News about his arrest spread in April 2023 after he was seen being led by the police in handcuffs.
At a press conference broadcast live on Facebook, a police chief alleged that Davies preys on wealthy women, lures them into romantic relationships, and manipulates them to swindle their fortunes.
The police also urged other potential victims of Davies to come forward and report their complaints, indicating that there may be additional individuals who have been targeted by his fraudulent activities.
Empress has since then moved on with her life. She threw an all white party in November to celebrate her 43rd birthday.
