Actor Kenneth Okonkwo has said that he resigned from the All Progressive Congress (APC) and did not defect.
The 55-year-old said this in a recent interview on Channels Television in which he explained the differences between the two statements.
According to Kenneth Okonkwo, “First of all, I am always not very comfortable with the word defection. I resigned from APC and joined another party. The defect is when you move to a party to another, let’s say you are a member of the national assembly and in Nigeria, you must be a member of a political party to hold any office. So there won’t be any chance for you to resign, in that circumstances you can defect.
“But when you resign and join another party, that is not defection.”
The Labour Party spokesperson announced his resignation from APC in a statement shared on social media on July 11.

The resignation came a day after the then APC presidential candidate Bola Tinubu announced former Borno State governor Senator Kashim Shettima as his running mate.
