Lagos State Government has released photos of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s meeting with Grenadian Prime Minister Dickon Michelle in Grenada following reports that the governor “abandoned his work and went to party”.
Mr Sanwo-Olu returned to Nigeria on Wednesday morning after spending days partying in the Caribbean island of Grenada in commemoration of the 50th birthday anniversary of Abuja-based businesswoman and socialite, Aisha Achimugu, reports Premium Times.
Achimugu, who lost her husband to Coronavirus in 2020, changed clothes at least 30 times, with each dress said to cost thousands of dollars, the newspaper claimed.
Sanwo-Olu was said to have flown in a private aircraft to the Carribean island, and took residency in one of the most expensive resorts in the world.
The news outlet also claimed many officials of Sanwo-Olu’s administration did not know his whereabouts for days.
It also said that while the Mandilas building burned in Lagos on January 21 and many Lagosians remained overburdened by poverty and insecurity, Sanwo-Olu was reveling at a party at Calivigny Island, an 80-acre private and exquisite location which costs about $132,000 per night.
The paper quoted those familiar with the event as saying that the organisers rented the island for seven days, amounting to about $924,000 in total, in addition to other charges.
It added that Sanwo-Olu and other participants alternated between Calivigny Island and Silversand Grenada, an exotic five-year-old seven-star luxury resort located in Grand Anse beach, where some events of the posh celebration were held.
Among the musicians who reportedly performed at the various events were Kenny G (American saxophonist and composer), Waje, Flavour, Adekunle Gold, Asake and Mr Killa (a Grenada musician).

One of Sanwo-Olu’s opponents in the governorship election last year Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour amplified the newspaper’s report by posting it on X.
Countering the report, Lagos State Government posted on X photos of Sanwo-Olu presenting a miniature of the blue line train to Prime Minister Michelle.
According to the government, Sanwo-Olu and Michelle held talks on bilateral relations and exchanged ideas on tourism, agriculture and other economic interests.
The government also confirmed Sanwo-Olu attended some social engagements during his visit to the small island country.
