Actress Bimbo Ademoye has talked briefly about her character Arolake in Kunle Afolayan’s soon-to-be-released series Anikulapo: Rise of the Spectre.

Anikulapo: Rise of the Spectre is a sequel to the movie Anikulapo released in 2022.

The trailer was released on Netflix’s official Instagram account on January 30, in which it was announced that the series will be released on March 1.

The one-minute clip shows a series of events surrounding the lead characters Arolake and Saro and the fate that awaits the latter after he is presumed dead.

On Friday Kunle Afolayan shared a behind-the-scenes footage on his Instagram account in which Bimbo talked about her character in the series.

The actress stated that her character faces jealousy from others as seen in the original movie where her co-wives exhibited jealousy over the king’s affection for her.

She said: “Talk about jealous of Arolake, she can’t catch a break, but I look forward to filming it. I am actually very excited because of the burst of emotions and know I’m an actor who loves to show her emotions so I hope I get it right and I’m very happy about it.”

“Everybody is jealous of Arolake From the depths of her soul, @bimboademoye brings Arolake to life!” Kunle captioned the video.

The filmmaker in a 2022 interview with the Guardian UK, said Anikulapo series will be bigger than HBO’s Game of Thrones.

He said: “I’ve been working on Aníkúlápó for six years. Originally, I wanted to make a series but I shopped it and kept telling people that this movie would be bigger than Game of Thrones. Eventually, Netflix told me to make a movie first since I believed in the project that much and if it became a success, we’d develop a series.”

The movie got 16 nominations at the 2023 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA). Anikulapo won five awards altogether, including best overall movie.

Distributed by Netflix, Anikulapo has an IMDB rating of 5.5.
