Actor Jerry Amilo has said that the bill proposed by Senator Ned Nwoko (PDP/Delta North) to allow civilians bear guns to protect themselves will promote respect amongst Nigerians.
The bill, Nwoko said on Thursday during an interview on Arise TV’s The Morning Show, will see Nigerians defend themselves against kidnappers, bandits and armed robbers.
The 63-year-old lawmaker said the police is not adequately funded and is under-staffed hence the need for civilians to be allowed to carry arms.
According to him, it is included in the bill that those who intend to own guns must get medical fitness certification, must have clean criminal records, must obtain passes from traditional rulers in their domains, and go through a shooting school among other requirements.
Weighing in on the matter in an Instagram live session on Friday, Jerry Amilo, who supported the bill, stated that it will foster respect among Nigerian citizens.
The movie star said the reason the Westerners respect each other is because they are licenced to carry firearms.
“If all of us get gun, everybody go dey respectful, so if I carry my gbola you carry your own gbola you go respect yourself, you no go just come dey talk to me anyhow,” he said in parts.
