Former President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday buried his elder sister Obebhatein Jonathan in Otuoke, Bayelsa State.
Obebhatein died on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, after a brief illness, at the age of 70.
Among the attendees at the funeral were former presidential candidate Peter Obi and Senator Seriake Dickson.
The former President shared pictures from the funeral on his Facebook page.
He wrote, “Today, friends and associates joined my family to bid a final farewell to my late elder sister, Madam Obebhatein Jonathan.
“She was not just a sister but also a guide, a confidant, and a fellow dream-weaver.

“Together, we navigated the labyrinth of life, chasing shared dreams with a determination known only to those who truly understand the power of close sibling camaraderie.
“Even though she is no longer with us in body, her memory, and the love we shared will forever remain in my heart.
“Even though her death is painful, we take solace in the fact that she was an exemplary woman and role model who lived a dedicated life of service to God and humanity. May her soul rest in peace.”
Mr Obi also shared photos on social media.
“Today, I was in Bayelsa state to join other respected Nigerians to pay my last respects to the Late Madam Obebhatein Jonathan, the elder sister of my very revered elder brother, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan at his country home in Otuoke,” he wrote.
“On behalf of my family, I sincerely condole with him and the entire Jonathan family for the huge loss. Madam Obebhatein Jonathan, as a retired teacher, contributed immensely to our nation by playing a pivotal role in our education sector, a very critical area in our national development.
“May God Almighty, whom it pleased to call her home at this time grant her eternal rest, and grant her beloved mother, President Goodluck Jonathan, and the entire family, the fortitude to bear her sad irreplaceable loss.”
