The Delta State Police Command has explained why a Nollywood costumier named Prince Onyenwere who allegedly raped a 10-year-old girl was released on bail.
Recall that Prince was handed over to the police in January after he was beaten for allegedly abusing the girl on a movie set and was subsequently released by the police, sparking reactions on social media.
However, in a statement released on Saturday, police spokesperson Bright Edafe said the “mother of the victim compounded the entire case stating that she and her family has forgiven the suspect” and refused to show up with her daughter which led to the release of the suspect.
“Regarding the alleged rape of a 10-year-old girl by the actor “prince” I want members of the public to read how the mother of the victim compounded the entire case stating that she and her family has forgiven the suspect. She refused to show up with the victim. Attached are screenshots of text messages, and an affidavit.
“On the premise of that, charging the suspect was granted a temporary bail with the hope that the family will do the right thing,” he wrote on Instagram.

Edafe also released a statement made by Austine Timi, mother of the victim in which she stated that she was withdrawing her complaint because she had decided to let go of the matter.
