A Kano State High Court has sentenced Chinese man Frank Geng-Quangrong to death by hanging for killing his lover Ummukulsum Sani.
The 47-year-old, who lives at Railway Quarters in Kano, was convicted on one count charge of culpable homicide.
Ruling on Tuesday, Justice Sanusi Ado-Ma’aji, held that the prosecution had proven its case beyond reasonable doubt.
Earlier, the prosecutor who is also the state’s attorney-general Haruna Dederi said the Chinese national stabbed his 22-year-old lover to death on September 16, 2022 at Janbulo Quarters, Kano.
“The victim was rushed to the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital Kano where she was confirmed dead by a medical doctor,” he said.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecution presented six witnesses and four exhibits to prove their case against the defendant.
The defence counsel Muhummad Dan’azumi presented the defendant to defend himself, one other witness and tendered five exhibits.
Dan’azumi urged the court to recommend the defendant for prerogative of mercy pursuant to Section 313 of ACJL.
The Chinese had claimed he didn’t kill Sani intentionally but stabbed her in self-defence after she allegedly grabbed his testes.
Speaking with reporters shortly after the judgment, Sani’s mother Fatima Zubairu said she was satisfied with the ruling.
