Singer Yemi Alade has refuted a report claiming that she stated that despite her success, she does not win awards in Nigeria because she refuses sexual advances from men.
The 35-year-old dismissed the report on her X account on Thursday after the information went viral.
“There was a time in the industry when everyone wanted to sleep with me and it was like, ‘Yemi, if you don’t do this, you won’t have that. Today men are the reason I don’t win awards in Nigeria.
“Going down with men was like a bridge I had to cross to get on some platforms, get some deals and even awards. When I made my decision never to engage in sexual activities for gains, lots of opportunities were automatically blocked for me,” WithIn Nigeria reported.
Reacting on X, Yemi Alade described the report as false news writing, “”When I read the interview that Yemi Alade recently did, I was like “wow, Yemi Alade don suffer”. Mtchww get a job stupid rumour mongers of false news.”
In another tweet, she added: “Unintelligent excuse for a bug with a phone aka dumb blogger.”
