Gospel singer Nathaniel Bassey has withdrawn his petition against one of the four men who claimed he fathered fellow gospel singer Mercy Chinwo’s son.
Nathaniel Bassey’s lawyers made this known in a statement on Monday in which it was stated that the singer forgave and pardoned the Facebook user named Kingsley Ibe after he apologised.
The press statement released by Nathaniel’s legal representatives disclosed that ”The police have taken his statement together with other incontrovertible evidence ready for prosecution over criminal defamation and cyber-related offences.”
It also noted that the accused had shown remorse for his actions and was committed to redeeming himself.
“Mr Ibe has shown true repentance for his actions and made a commitment to turn a new leaf and become a more responsible member of society.
“His aged mother and family members have also apologized on his behalf, and I have decided to extend a hand of fellowship and love towards him.”.
“In line with our client’s calling as a minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ, he has considered the apology (both in print and in video) and has decided to extend mercy to Mr. Kingsley lbe by withdrawing his petition from the authorities against him in demonstration of the love of God.
“It should be noted that although our client chose to exercise his right to withdraw the petition against Mr. Kingsley lbe, the petition against the other suspects remains, and the police have continued their investigation,” the statement read in parts.
Ibe and three others alleged that the ‘Ebenezer’ singer fathered Mercy’s child, an allegation that went viral on social media.
The three other social media users, identified in the petition are Okoronkwo Ejike, Terrence Ekot and Dj Spoiltkid.
