You’ll always be our winner, Uzee Usman reacts to Funke Akindele’s AMVCA loss

Actor Uzee Usman has reacted to filmmaker Funke Akindele losing all nominated categories at the 2024 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA).

Funke’s film, A Tribe Called Judah, bagged five nominations but failed to secure a win at the award ceremony on Saturday.

Funke who was nominated in the best lead actress category, lost to Kehinde Bankole, who won for her role in Adire.

Timini Egbuson lost the best supporting actor category to Demola Adedoyin of Breath of Life while the best writing went to Tunde Babalola for Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti.

Breath of Life also won the best movie, beating Black Book, Blood Vessel, Mami Wata, Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, Over the Bridge and A Tribe Called Judah.

In an Instagram post on Sunday, Uzee Usman shared a picture of himself on a trip abroad and thanked Funke for sponsoring the trip.

Uzee, who plays the character Adamu in A Tribe Called Judah, also declared Funke a winner, despite not winning any of the nominated categories.

“@funkejenifaakindele thanks for making this trip possible for me, you’ll always be our winner. Love you,” he wrote.

“Adamu mi have fun dear. We stay winning. Work Dey ooo,” Funke replied.

Funke still holds the record as the only celebrity with the most wins at the AMVCA.
