A Federal High Court in Lagos State on Tuesday admitted two TikTokers Adesola James and Odunmosun Awiye to N100 million bail each with two sureties in like sum.
They were charged with four counts of cyberstalking, illegal publication and defamation of character against the monarch of Ikate-Elegushi, Oba Saheed Elegushi.
The defendants are also known as Arifanla Jogun Omo Odo Agba and Okiki-OshunT respectively.
Justice Abimbola Awogboro also ordered that the sureties must be blood relations to the two defendants, who have paid three years tax, and with means of livelihood.
The judge, however, ordered that the two TikTokers be remanded in the Ikoyi Correctional Centre pending when they can perfect their bail terms.
Earlier, the police prosecutor Nosa Uhumwangho told the court that the duo allegedly committed the offences between December 2023 and March 2024.
Uhumwangho said James and Awiye illegally and unlawfully published audible sounds through their TikTok platform known as ‘Arifanla Jogun Omo Odo Agba.’
He also told the court that apart from using their TikTok handle to commit the offences, they also used other social media handles such as WhatsApp and Facebook.
The prosecutor further told the court that their actions caused insult, injury, criminal intimidation, hatred or needless anxiety to the monarch and the people of the Ikate Kingdom.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Justice Awogboro adjourned the case till June 4 and 5, 2024, for further hearing.
