Actress Rita Edochie broke down in tears at the funeral of her colleague Junior Pope on Friday.
Junior Pope was laid to rest in his hometown Ikpogwu Ukehe in Nsukka, Enugu State on Friday afternoon.
His body arrived his village in the early hours of Friday, followed by a funeral service at Saint Peter’s Catholic Church, Ukehe.
Speaking with BBC Igbo, Rita Edochie who attended the funeral with her colleagues said she was heartbroken when she heard the news of Junior Pope’s death. The actress added that her only prayer is for God to accept the actor’s soul in heaven.
When asked how she felt seeing her colleague being laid to rest, a teary Rita who spoke in Igbo said: “How else am I supposed to feel? Junior Pope is dead, and he is not coming back to life. Everybody will give an account. My only plea is that God should accept his soul. He was my son, a good son who never discriminated against anyone. Wherever he is, let him protect his wife and children. His hands were clean, people have been saying rubbish. Social media has done more harm than good. I love social media but they should ban it. Junior Pope was a man full of strength but he just died like that.
“God will never forgive those saying rubbish about his wife. Let her be.”
Hours before Junior Pope was laid to rest, Rita Edochie took to her Instagram account to announce her arrival in Enugu.
She wrote: “I AM CURRENTLY AT UKEHE IN NSUKKA LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF ENUGU STATE FOR THE BURIAL/ FUNERAL OF MY GREAT SON JUNIOR POPE. I ARRIVED LAST NIGHT AND SINCE THEN HAVE BEEN WONDERING IF HE IS ACTUALLY THE PERSON EVERYBODY IS GATHERING FOR SO THIS IS ACTUALLY A REALITY. UWA NKE A SEF. JUNIOR POPE. IT IS WELL O00. TODAY IS UNIMAGINABLE.”
He drowned alongside four others on April 10.
