A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted a deputy police commissioner Abba Kyari bail to go home and bury his mother.
Justice Emeka Nwite granted him bail of N50 million and a surety in like sum.
Justice Nwite also held that the surety, which shall be his counsel in the matter, should deposit a copy of his call-to-bar certificate to the deputy registrar of the court.
Kyari is facing drug-related charges filed by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) following his arrest on February 14, 2022.
Kyari is to deposit his travel passport with the court and shall always report to any formation of the NDLEA nearest to him within the period the bail was granted for.
The court subsequently set May 31 for the determination of his bail application.
Kyari’s mother Yachilla Kyari died on May 5, 2024.
In 2021, Kyari was indicted by the United States’ Federal Bureau of investigation in the case of convicted internet fraudster Ramon Abbas aka Hushpuppi.
